About Marjan Foundation
Marjan Foundation (MF) is a Canadian registered non-profit organization based in Toronto, Canada that was launched in January 2016 in memory of Marjan Mohammadi to fulfill her will and testament.
Marjan Mohammadi was an Iranian Male to Female Transsexual who escaped Iran to Turkey on the basis of her gender identity. She was recognized as a refugee by the UNHCR office in Ankara and her file was referred to Canada for resettlement.
A few months before her flight to Canada, Marjan found out that she is HIV positive. Her CD4s were very low and she was hospitalized.
IRQR and her friends tried their best to provide her support and assistance. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed very late and she passed away in April 2013.
During the last Marjan’s meeting with Arsham Parsi, she mentioned that she would register an organization to support Iranian transsexuals as soon as she arrive in Canada. Then, she asked Arsham to do it for her if she cold not make it to Canada and laughed. She wanted to continue her education and find a good job and sponsor other trans refugees and save their lives.
Losing Margin was difficult since she was an active member of our LGBT community and she was outspoken, kind, passionate and had great potentials to bring much needed changes into the society. Now she is buried in a very quiet cemetery near the city of Kayseri in Turkey.
What is Marjan Foundation's Mission?
MF mission is to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and other sexual transmitted infections through educational training activities as well as supporting LGBT refugees to be resettled in Canada.
After almost three years of planing, meetings, discussions and cooperations with other organizations, in early 2019, MF’s board of directors, decided to start their sponsorship program and get involved in assisting LGBT refugees to come to Canada as a Community Sponsor.
This is a huge undertaking for MF but we know that we can do it since we have great volunteers, valuable support of expert activists and organizations who are working on this field and aa great international LGBT community.
We are the people who aim to make an impact in changing the world for the better life of LGBTs, we just endlessly talking about it to other people. On our platform people who want to help meet people, who are in need of support. Directly & transparent. When will you join? Above all you!
You and the tens of thousands of supporters, who make Marjan Foundation grow and thrive. A small team located in Europe and North America works on bringing even more supporters to join them, and trying to bring those LGBT Refugees who are in need of resettlement to safety.
